Hi all,

I'm just a few small installations away from a working Kitchen - something I've been without for weeks now; so I'm very excited. I wired up my electrical stove, and put in the anti-tip device all without any trouble - I even turned on the stove (AND IT WORKED!)

Life was good! No, life was great. Dreams of cooking Frozen pizzas danced in my head.

However, when I went to install the fan/light thing that will hang above my stove I ran into a (big?) problem. This thing has pre-made holes on the back and top of it and I'm supposed screw through those holes and into something solid (like the bottom of my cabinets/studs in the wall).

The problem is that NONE (not even one) of the pre-drilled holes match up with any of the studs in my wall. They are even off from the cabinet.

So - what do I do?

The unit is some type of metal - can I just drill through it and make my own holes? Do I need to remove the drywall and put some type of wood there and attach that to the 2x4 so my range hood thing can attach to the wood?

Thanks in advance - this is a non-ducted install; so really, all it is nothing more than an expensive fan/light combo. I just need it to stay in the air.

Carefully, with alot of "Pre-conception" and planning....Yes you may drill new holes..

Do you have an Existing hood that you can match-mark the holes from?...They really arent heavy enough to cause a problem, but you dont want it mounted at a 45 degree angle either...

Wow - after the fact, I feel silly because it went very easily. I thought drilling though metal would be a problem, but I went through it with no trouble at all.

In the future, I'll install the hood *before* the stove, because the stove sure seemed to be in the way; making holding it up and trying to screw a real pain....but long story short - it's great.

Thank you for your help.
