I have a 28" Philips LCD, (used very little over tha past 1-2yrs). Several of the channels have become very very "snowy". Some channels are fine (lower channels). (Cable was checked out. The problem is the TV)

Philips customer service could not help. Could this be the tuner? I was told that if that is the case, the whole "board" had to be replaced (> $400.00).

Any suggestions to trouble shoot, and if indeed the tuner is the problem, can I replace it myself or bypass it??

Any suggestions most appreciated

I'd use an external tuner of some sort.

Some troubleshooting stuff to try:

Which channels look good? If everything above 13 is snowy ... Have you checked the menu to make sure it didn't accidently get switched from CATV/Cable to Broadcast/Antenna?

Do the direct inputs look good? (Component, S-Video, Composite/RCA from a DVD or VCR) If so, there's nothing wrong with that part of the TV and you could just plug the cable into the VCR and use it as the tuner, as classicsat suggested.

You say the cable company checked their signal, but did they check it at the input of the TV or the drop where it enters the house? If they only verified the drop, there could be a problem with the in-house wiring. Maybe the cable between the wall and the TV?

Are there other TVs in the house? How to they look? Can you drag one of them to the bad TV's location and look at the cable line on it?

Thank you so much for your reply. (All cable outlets in the house were OK, and other TV's work fine on all outlets) I did use my old VCR, it worked, but the overall picture quality definition / resolution) on all channels is very poor. I am willing to purchase an external tuner. What features should I look for (Connectivity, HDTV?? etc.)
Any recommendation will be helpful and cost estimate.

Thanks again!

Just something HD, compatible with your source. If you have a pay TV service, you will likely need to obtain a box through them.
