Sears model number 110.20702990

Two problems I'd like assistance on:

Usually it agitates, spins, drains, rinses fine.

1. Sporadically, it won't spin after a rinse cycle, but it does drain. If I turn the knob to a different spin location on the dial, it usually starts spinning.

2. Occasionally the spin cycle ends with a loud clunk. It doesn't slow down and stop, it just stops from a full speed spin.

I replaced the motor coupling about 6 months ago. Could it have gone bad this fast? With the sudden stops from spin that can't be good for the coupling. Or, am I wrong and is it something completely different?

Soudns like a timer going bad but check lid switch first for sticking. The clunk is the clutch stopping to drum to fast. Take 1 small shot of wd 40 and spray in clutch. Use only a small shot or you will ruin clutch

Thanks for the hint about the clutch. I'll give that a try.

I neglected to mention I also replaced the timer last July. Sorry. Do you still think it's the timer? Or is it more likely something else?

Forgot to mention another thing. (Pushed the Submit key too fast.) I don't think it's the switch because the same symptoms occur when I have the lid open and the switch engaged manually with a small plastic rod.
Thanks.

Yes should be the timer... On the sudden stop "dont put oil or any lube on the clutch" this will make it slip in the spin cycle.. the clutch releases the brake which is also what drives the basket drive to spin... You can very slightly lube the basket drive brake pads

Bambiblaster,

Looking at the parts diagram, the brake unit sits on top of the clutch which sits on top of the transmission. Can the pads be lubed without taking apart the whole shebang?

Thanks.

As information, I unplugged the timer to see if any of the connectors maybe were scorched, plugged it back in and (crossed fingers, knocking on wood) it hasn't failed to spin since.

Thanks.
