I've seen lots of conflicting information on the use of root killer additives to protect a septic system from tree root intrusion and damage. I have a couple of trees located about 25' from where my tile field is and want to ensure I'm doing everything possible to keep it in good working order. I've added root killer a few time over the years, then have heard that these products can actually hurt performance because they kill the benefiical microbes. So, the last few times, I've added the root killer then -- a couple of weeks later -- added the microbe additive.
What's the real scoop here?

I dont believe "root killer" products do any good.
However, Try to keep drainfield area mowed, and do not let small brush, shrubs, and or trees etc to grow on area. Grass only.
