Forgive my stupidity, but really need some advice. I have a GE unit with a heat pump. The heat or a/c will not turn on, although the fan will.

A couple of days ago, we had an electrical outage for a few hours. I checked the circuit breaker and all seemed well. Is there anything else I need to check?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Need to find out where and if you have power to the inside and outside units first. You say the inside fan will run. So I take it you have 220V inside and 24V there. So check the outdoor unit for 220V inside it and if the 24V go to the contactor when calling for heat or cool.

Seemed to be one of those fluke things. Turned the breaker off; then on. Replaced the batteries and reset the thermostat. Thanks for the kind input!
