I want to tile the inside landing at the front of the house. The flooring is an oak veneer. Can I tile over it or should it be removed?

You can't put anything over hardwood flooring it has to be removed. Then you'll install plywood and over that an appropriate tile backer board or membrane, then your tiles. This is assuming the framing of your subfloor is stiff enough for tile.
