I have a GE frost free fridge and every now and then the blower fan in the freezer screeches and whines trying to get started. We open the freezer and tap on the back and sometime it will stop and start blowing ok but now it is getting more stubborn. I wondering if it is a big problem or if the freezer will just frost up if it quits working. I'm thinking of removing the back panel inside the freezer and using some WD40 in it. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

WD-40 will help for only a few hours at best.
The reason that it is noisy is that the bearings on the motor are worn.
If it fails you will loose all cooling in the fridge compartment.
If you are handy it is not a difficult job to do.
You should be able to get an exact replacement using the fridge model number and make.

Once the motor starts it is not noisy at all, it cerculates through the compartment as normal as it always has. It makes this screeching noise trying to get started. It will run fine for 3 or 4 days or even a week or more and then start acting up again. This started about 5 weeks ago, as a matter of fact it ran fine for more than 2 weeks and then started this again yesterday.

You could try taking the motor apart, cleaning the bearings and shaft then applying a drop or two of 20 weight non-detergent motor oil.
My experience is however that once it starts making noise even with intervention it will not last long.
A replacement motor should be less than $30.00, will be a long term fix and is actually less work that messing with the old one.

the newer GE boxes use a dc motor which is expensive.

The mod.# is TBF17SBB, it's an older model and runs and works perfect all but for the above.
I think I'll order a motor for it and when it acts up again I'll have it installed. Been working fine for the last 2 days.
