I am thinking of updating the insulation in my 70 year old, brick home in Oklahoma City. Ventilation is by gable at both ends of the house.

Someone before me incorrectly installed the present insulation by layering two batts both with vapor barriors. The insulation is very old and compacted down to about three inches. I assume there is no way to get the old insulation out of the attic without bringing it down the folding stairs in the hall and through the house. If so, this would be a huge task. Therefore, can I just blow insulation in over the old, and ignore the problem of the incorrectly installed insulation? I'm not aware of any problem this has caused up to this point.

Thanks, Rick
