Hi gang,
Whats the word on using flagstone in a fireplace, you know, on the floor? Not the walls or anything. I just saw a picture of one that has it on the floor of the hearth and it looks really cool but is it safe? Is this acceptable to do or not?

I am not sure what that material is. All I can tell you is that in MI the Hearth must be made from a non-combustible material and if the stove is up off the floor, it must be on a well designed pedistal. There is strict size requirements for the non-combustible surface also. This is above and beyond the mech code.

It really does not matter what anyone of us think here, we are not going to approve its use. Call your inspector AND insurance company. There is reams and reams of data on fire place and wood burner safety. Both of those organizations are the one's that you have to make happy. Not to mention the most important person you need to make happy.......momma.
