I have a adt alarm. It is not monitored but I need it for the beep I have kids that play in the basement. I like when I hear that they got out. Well the unpluged the wall plug and it stopped working. So I called adt, well you know what they told me . So I have been reading this and tring the ideas. But It just shows the red alarm light and the green ready light. It is a vista 10p. I have unplug it held in the * and the #. I have it the 25801 but nothing. Any thing would be help full .

Your info is a little disjointed, but we'll give it a try. By your description, the system powers up armed and in alarm.
Assuming that you have your installer and user manuals for the Vista 10p:
Unless local programming was locked out, when you use the * + # at power up, and enter #20, it will read back the installer code one digit at a time.
Exit programming with *99, and the panel should be disarmed and out of alarm. The installer code is not the same thing as the master code, and cannot disarm the system if it's been armed by _any other code_. You have to use the installer code to set the master code:
Installer code + [8] + 02 + new code (page 6-4 of installer manual). Do not hesitate more than a second or so between keystrokes, or the new code will not take.

When I do the *# then #20 it does nothing. Theres nothing on the screen at all. Today was the first I saw something when we didn't hook up the battery but as soon as I hit *# it went away. This is what I do one person unplugs it and the battery. Then hooks it all back up as soon as I see the red and green light. I hit the *# the #20. But nothing shows on the screen.

This system probablyt has the installer lockout feature turned on.
Power down and have someone hold down * + # _while_ you restore power. If it doesn't go into program mode, the local programming access has most likely been disabled using the downloader software. There is no way around that trick that I am aware of.
