Hi Folks,
I have a Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator (22 or 23 cu ft), and the water dispensing stopped dispensing water suddenly yesterday morning. I followed the book instructions - i.e. replace the water filter cause it might be clogged. So now I'm out 50$ for that cause it doesn't fix it, and I can't really store a filter full of water. So...
I've read a bit online of what to look for, cause I don't have the service manual. I've found the following:
- pipe in fridge might be frozen cause too much ice
- solenoid might be gone
- control board might need to be replaced
I'm leaning toward one of the latter too, but I'm open to any advice.
I kind of imagine that I used to be able to 'hear' the click of the solenoid when the dispenser starts and now I don't, but I can't be 100% sure.
I'm quite comfortable with electrical probing. Are there any points on the back of the fridge behind the cover at the bottom that I can probe to diagnose concretely before buying parts?
Thanks!

We just replaced a side by side that had the same problem. The day before the new one came, I unplugged the refrigerator. The next day the water suddenly worked again after 3 years. I guess it was frozen.

Your fridge should have a dual water valve in back where water line hooks to. One for icemaker, other for dispenser.
While someone else pushes on dispenser button, check for 120 volts at solenoid. You will have to follow the water lines to figure out which solenoid goes to dispenser. If you get voltage, water valve needs replaced. No voltage, board is bad.

Hello, We have a Kenmore Elite side by side fridge. Our icemaker quit working so we replaced the filter and after a few days of dispensing water it started to make ice again. But then it quit about a day later. The tube that carries the water to make the ice was frozen. We took a hairdryer to it and we turned down the freezer settings to the recommended number and it has been working fine ever since. Hope this helps.
