I have a Luxaire Heat pump with electric emergency heat. Recently the heat pump fan motor failed. I replaced the motor and all was great for a few weeks and now the compressor is shorted. My thought is that the compressor was overworked when the fan quit and caused the failure.
I then switched the original 1992 Luxaire mercury bulb type t-stat to emergency heat and noticed the blower running continuously. If I turn down the t-stat the blower turns off. Turning the stat up the blower comes on with no resistance heat operation until the stat is turned up higher. The first stage of resistance heat comes on and if the stat is turned up higher, two other stages come on and after some time the last stage comes on. The house is staying warm but a few degrees behind the stat setting but the blower is on constantly. I have a feeling that it is wired wrong and has been this way since it was installed. I have checked the diagram on the electric heater and it is not extremely clear to me if it is wired correctly.
I would like to get this straightened out before I tackle the compressor replacement.
I appreciate any input on this.

I dont know the exact model of your tstat but I would bet you need a jumper between w2 and e on your tstat.

The stat is a Luxaire model 6th11704024 and looking inside where all the wires connect, there is no w2 terminal. There is however an L terminal with no wire connected to it.

Most of the time that L in the tstat is for a malfunction indicator. The older tstat all worked on a 2o drop in temp then the elements start to kick in. So yes the blower will come on when the tstat first calls for heat. Just turn the tstat to AUX or EME heat is all.

I have the stat in emergency heat mode and that turns off the heat pump but does not turn on the first stage of the resistance heat. The problem is that by turning on the blower and not a heating element, the blower never turns off. I can't imagine that it would be intended to operate that way. If the temp gets to a point to activate the t-stat to turn something on, you would think it would turn on some form of heat and not just the blower until it cools off another few degrees.

Come on guys. I know there has to be at least one of you that has the answer to this problem.
Please by blower motor needs a break!

First you have to make sure your controller is actually calling for your first stage elctric heat you need to see 24vac on either your w1 terminal or e terminal to common then if you have that you need to figure out why the heat strip is not on could be an open limit broken element bad sequencer so there is not just one answer

I get 24 volts across the c and e terminals on the stat when when moving the temp selector lever from cold to warm and the mercury moves on the one bulb. At this point the blower is running and there is no heat. Moving the temp selector warmer until the mercury moves in the next bulb will then get 24 volts from the c terminal to the e and w (there is only w and no w1) and then the first stage of heat turns on. Moving the temp control warmer will make no other voltage changes at the stat terminals.
Is there any place that I can get the logic diagram as to the operation of the heat pump, resistance heat and its stages and the stat? If I had this info. I wouldn't have to bugging all of you and feeling helpless and stupid.
Thanks,
Bryan
