Hi i was changing my 3 prong dryer receptacle to a 4 prong dryer receptacal.
After i took off the 3 prong i noticed the ground wire (bare copper) was cut back, i guess because they didn't use it.
Is this needed to hook up my dryer? can i extend the bare copper wire or do i have to replace the whole wire?
I have no slack to get any more wire out of the wall.
thanks

Unless there are 4 wires in the wall , you cannot use a 4 prong receptacle.

If you do have 4 wires, yes you may "MAKE_UP" a pigtail from the appropriate size wire and splice it together using the proper wire nut.

What is written on the spec tag of the dryer.. Voltage? AMPS?- 3 or 4 wire cord?

A bit more info would help..

Well i just move my receptacle up which gave me enough wire to have my ground wire back.
So problem solved.
Don't know why i didnt think of doing that before.
