I am needing guidance on how to instal a cable outlet in an apartment bedroom that has no wiring setup to use. My only cable outlet is in the living room and want to hook up a tv in the bedroom. The cable company refuses to do it because of liability with the aprtment owners and the apartments told me to hire an electrician. I don't feel like wasting $75 if I can do it myself. The cable outlt in the living room is on an opposite wall so I can't just drill in the wall and run it through that way and I don't want to have to run 20 feet of cable from one room to another. Is there a soultion to my problem that I can do myself? Thanks-:coffee:

I'm surprised that the cable company wouldn't do it; if they ran the cable they could assure that it would be installed correctly.

This is certainly a DIY project, but because you are renting, and because I don't think you have full approval from your landlord, I prefer not to offer advice.

$75 actually sounds reasonable if you think about it. You will probably have to buy about $20-$30 worth of parts anyway. You may also have to buy tools. It will save you from spending an afternoon at the store (and from multiple trips), and you won't have to do any work. I would pay someone $75 to avoid going into a crawlspace.

Check your lease. It could wind up costing you $75 for the electrician PLUS your security deposit because you've made modifications to the apartment -- even though you've made an improvement. A verbal "okay" from the landlord isn't good enough. Get the permission in writing.
