How would you close one side of a double opening fireplace? We are wanting to buy a house that has a double opening fireplace that is in the middle of the family room making the room too small so we need to know if we can close one side of it...

you might not be able to depending on the size of the flue, you might get too much draft and the wood wont burn right and you will have a huge ash buildup in you flues.
i would get a mason to look at it to determine the correct flue to firebox ratio.
