I just found a store that sells granite edging for tile countertops. The distance between the bottom of the edging (where it lays on the countertop) and the bottom of the lip is 3/4 inches.
My original plan was to make the underlayment out of 3/4" plywood, however, I've read that a cement board should also be installed. A 3/4" plywood and 1/8" cement board would allow some of the underlayment to be exposed after the granite edging is installed. So, I am planning on using a 5/8" plywood with a 1/8" backer board.
Does anyone know if 5/8" plywood plus 1/8" cement board provide enough rigidity for 3/8" granite tiles?
