When my contractor built our small waterfall in the backyard, he added this liquid to the mortar mix to "waterproof" it. It works well, the basin where the fall drops into keeps the water. Does anyone know what this additive would have been? My contractor is retired and cannot be located. I called the bldg. materials store and they only have a sealer that you could brush on after you put the mortar. Thanks in advance for your help.

There are many manufacturers of this type of material, BUT in truth, they are not designed for that application. Search for Rheopel, Krete-guard, Hydrocide, or Dry-blok among others.

One other item search for might be calcium stearate.

Depending upon your application, a pool plaster may be a better alternative. Are you laying rocks or plastering/parging a surface?

latex-milk additive'll do the same,,, sounds like sika's latex, tho.
