Howdy-

I have never had a headboard on my bed. Now that I'm going to buy my first new mattress, I'm going to do it right and buy a headboard to go with it.

I noticed that my parents' old bed is loose at the place where the horizontal rails lock into the headboard. I guess they have a 'healthy' life between the sheets :-) and the bed frame was affected by that. Not that I want to dwell on that thought....

However, I was thinking how I want the headboard to be as sturdy as a handrail because, well, it might be used as one in certain circumstances if you know what I mean. SO, I'm thinking about mounting the headboard to the wall. That raises two questions:

1) is there a problem I'm not seeing with mounting a headboard to the wall?

2) should I fasten the frame to the headboard if I mount it to the wall or should I leave the frame unattached? My gut says don't attach the frame to the headboard.

Sorry for the inuendo. I couldn;t think my way around this one.

1. Only issue I see is if you ever want to move your bed you'll have to move the headboard.

2. I wouldn't do this. Then your bed is attached to the wall and anytime you want to move it to clean or whatever you'll have to detach it from the headboard.

It can depend on the frame and type of headboard, but I would recommend attaching the headboard to the frame rather than the wall
The proper frame and headboard combo (not mix and matching attachment hardware type) should be OK

If it's still not sturdy enough for you, then consider an easily detachable anchor to the wall studs (such as simple long screws/lag bolts) in addition to being attached to the frame

It's not ideal, but ya gotta do what you gotta do

Try it w/o first
