I have the Phillips model# 9P6440-C101
I know that these older TV with the 3 tubes projecting are not really bright to start with, but this one is so faint that it is best viewed in a dark room, sitting back 10-15 foot from the set. I found the replacement tubes and consider buying them, but am not sure how hard it is to replace them, or if that will solve my problem.

HotinOKC replied to a similar question recently in this Sony thread (http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?t=334345).

Replacing fluid and lamps is something best left to a trained tech, but if you want to give it a shot you really need the service manual. I haven't found a good online source for free manuals, but several sites sell them.

It also gets to a point of diminishing returns, where you have to choose between dumping money into an aging TV that may be at the end of its use life versus applying that money toward a new TV.
