My soot holder thing was totally packed with soot from who knows how long ago. I probably pulled 50-60lbs of soot from this hole. It has leaked ever since we moved in 4 years ago. Do you think this huge accumulation of soot was the cause? This flue does not have a cap on it. I was considering getting one for it but then I found this and cleaned it. Please let me know what you think?

You dont say what is leaking??? Is it the flashing around the flue. Or is the cement cap on the top broke. Or yes you can need a rain cap on top of the flue itself
