I went to my homeowner's meeting this evening and inquired about adding some fitness equipment (treadmill, bike, etc.) to our "clubhouse". Their response was that we would need different insurance and it would cost too much. Does anyone know if this is true? What kind of insurance would be needed to add a treadmill to a building that already has a kitchen, pool table, etc.

This is in CA.

Thanks in advance.

Ask them who the agent is and talk to him/her directly. It's potentially true - we don't allow daycare in any of our rental units because it would change the type of insurance we would have to carry.

At the very least you would have to increase the liability insurance for the complex...as fitness equipment is more of a liability than the pool table. But without looking at your policy it is hard to tell. Some policies do state, no fitness equipment is allowed.
