I moved into my new house in July and the ceiling fans we picked out have horrrrrrible lighting.. (picked them out of a catalog of course) We have Vaulted Ceilings (11 ft at the peak) and the ceiling fans are mounted right at the peak.. the bulb that is in each fan is a 120v 75w halogen type JD E11.. Now you would think the halogen bulb would be pretty bright.. Nope.. with the frosted white globe its pretty dim. My first thought was "I'll just buy a 100w to replace it" :thinker: that is until I saw the sticker that says 75w max. :wall: So heres my question(s) Is it possible to either (a) take out the 120v 75w socket and wire up a Standard socket in its place (and put a nice bright Eco bulb) or (b) take the light kit apart and wire up another 120v 75w Socket along with the current one? I bought a standard socket at Home Depot and thought about trying it this weekend but good ol common sense tells me to check with the pros first :D (before I end up having to call 911 and my insurance agent from the front lawn while my new house is burning down)

The socket has nothing to do with the 75 watt max rating. It is to prevent the wiring from getting heated by the bulb heat. Changing the socket won't help. The rating applies to real watts not the equivalent light output rating you see on all the CFL advertising.
Otherwise you should replace the fan with one that can handle different wattage.

yeah thats not the answer I was hoping for..:wall:
What if I just rewire the light kit with a gauge of wire for a standard socket.. that halogen bulb puts out some serious heat.. more than a standard bulb
