I've got a large french door/window in my kitchen eating area that is about 120 inches wide. I plan on sewing some long panels out of a small check that will open and shut. I have some rooster French country fabric that I want to make a valance to go over the panels. I want to be able to see the roosters so I don't want a treatment with alot of gathers, folds, etc but something that will soften up the large window. I'd like to incorporate the check in with the valance somehow and also have some tassels. Does anyone have any ideas for a French country looking window treatment?

I like an inverted pleat valance for that kind of fabric. You can make each section as wide as needed to show off the roosters and if you have a few different roosters on the fabric, you can put a different one on each section. Then you could put a small band at the bottom or top or both or a small cord or a combination, out of the check. You can also cover buttons with the check and sew them near the top of each pleat. You could even shape the bottom of each pleat section into a scallop for extra detail. As for the tassles, are they small or large? If small, you could hang one from the buttons or every button or if they're large, use them as tiebacks for the panels.
Another style could be flat, shaped pieces hung from knobs like this (this is a McCall Pattern):

Again, you could either put a small band and/or cord along top and/or bottom, in the check.

Perhaps a French Country treatment like the above would allow for the roosters to be placed as preferred. The checks could be used as a lining and would be visible. Small tassels could be placed along bottom.

This option features plaid along with floral print and tassels.

I love the window treatment pix you posted. However, I plan on putting a rod for the long panels underneath a valance and I don't want to see that rod. Therefore, I'm afraid the way the valance droops you'd see the rod, wouldn't you?

If you notice the top picture in twelvepole's post, the decorative rod is hung pretty far above the window. The panel rod could be hidden under that.
Also, any of the other treatments pictured would work just as well without the draping. You could install them on a shelf-type valance board.
Hope you post a picture of your finished project.
