My dad just replaced a ceiling fan with a new one. The fan and light on it worked. Now, the new fixture satys on and the switch is in effect, useless. He said that there were two black, two white, and one red coming out of the ceiling(junction box). There is a red and a white on the fixture. What seems to be the problem? New switch receptacle?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The new fan should have been connected the same as the old fan. Do you remember if any wires were connected to the 2 black wires from the ceiling?
Try moving the fan black/white or blue to the red wire from the ceiling.
Let us know if this works.

Tell us how he connected it together. I bet it originally had a black and white connected together and he thought he should fix that by connecting the black together.
