I have a lot of sliding (bypass) closet doors in my home with recessed finger pulls, some of them rusted, and want to replace them. I know what size they are and where to buy the new ones, but I cannot find directions anywhere online regarding how to remove the finger pulls in there now and insall the new ones. :wall: The only information I've read is what I know already: each is held in place by two nails.

Can anyone give me any information or refer me to a website or even a book that has instructions for how to do this? I thought it would be so simple.

Use a small standard screwdriver and finish hammer to remove the small nails. Use a razor blade to cut any paint/finish between door and pull. Carefully, use a small standard screwdriver to go around and slowly pry the pull off. In some cases, there will be a small hole completely through the door (pilot drill hole for a hole saw used to make the original hole). You could insert a punch or similar in it to help push out the pull.

Some new pulls have barbs built in so no need for nails. If no barbs, use some small nails (and a nail set) as before. Dont use any adhesives.

I recently did this in our house, exchanged all the 80s bright brass to the satin nickel of the 2000s.
