Water Softeners and Air Filtration Systems - Water Softner Question.

Here in central Indiana our water is hard as a rock. Lots of minerals, heavy calcium build ups on everything. I assume a water conditioner would help some or all of this.

One of my problems is that my much better half hates softened water. Says it feels "slimey" and makes her hair frizzy. Being bald I don't have a frizzys problem :)

I had been reading about "No Salt" water conditioners. One of them makes the following statement:

My question is do these systems work??? Kind if sounds like voodoo magic.. especially the claims that over time it will clear out the mineral deposits that are now in the water system.

Any comments or personal observations would be appreciated.

From my 25 years' experience as an industrial water chemist, the "gadgets", as we used to call them, do not work. The claims made by the suppliers of these devices all include some pretty scientific-sounding processes, but the controlled research studied I have read, and the devices I have removed from industrial plants after they failed to perform as advertized, lead me to view all such claims as "flim-flam."

Some "hydro-dynamics" devices and "magnetic" treamtment add-ons, have been in the marketplace for many years. The people who have purchased them usually just remove them and do not advertize the fact that they have "been had".

The old adage that If It Sounds Too Good To Be True....

Yeah just to re-iderate(spelling?) those gadgets that are being sold for hundreds of dollars are simply a gimmick. They will not provide you with soft water at all. If you want soft water you HAVE to get a softener.
As far as your better half is concerned,simply tell her that you want a softener to save all your appliances that use water from getting all built up with lime and calcium and eventually braking. Also tell her to just use less soap. If she cuts her soap content in half the water will appear "less slimey".

I have hard water too. I have an Easywater and it does work. I had lots of hard water buildup on my showerhead and appliances and the Easywater got rid of it. I still have some water spots in the shower, but they are so easy to clean off. They told me that would be the case.

I also hate the slimy feel of the salt softener water, with my Easywater I don't have that feeling anymore.

I was told upfront this was system was not a softener, it was a conditioner. I don't know what the difference is and I don't care. It works.

I just know I am very happy with my easywater.
