Auger quit working. Found belt worn/loose. Adjusted belt and now auger engagement either stalls engine or belt slips with no movement of auger shaft. ShoulI be able to spin auger by hand? I can't. I suspect gearbox/final drive(?) on auger is siezed. Have ordered new belt, any suggestions before I remove auger gearbox and inspect? Craftsman 12.5/33 Tecumseh 6 fd speeds 2 reverse model c950-52912-0. Thanks.

You should not be able to turn auger by hand but if you turn auger pulley by hand, augers should turn. If you cannot turn pully look at impeller and be sure something is not wedged between one of the paddles and the body. DO NOT put hands in there even with motor is off and spark plug wire is off. Use a broom handle or other piece of wood to try to turn impeller through the chute.
