This has been advertised a lot lately. A charcoal carbon block in lieu of loose carbon in water pitcher filters.
Ad says over 50 chems removed more than 99%.
I'm dubious. What do you knowledgeable folks think?

CHARCOAL:
-COMPRESSED CHARCOAL/CARBON BLOCK is the best type of charcoal filter, can remove chemicals and lead, but is easily clogged, so should be used with a sediment prefilter.
-GRANULAR CHARCOAL is cheaper, but water can flow around the granules without being treated.
-POWDERED CHARCOAL is a very fine dust useful for spot cleaning larger bodies of water, but is messy and can pass through some filters and be consumed. As they state, it is not that loose is any worse in actually filtering but because it is loose fill, the water may not actually be filtered because it may pass around the loose charcoal.
They both provide the same filtering abilities as far as types of contaminants removed, it is just that the block is better because all of the water is forced to be filtered.

Carbon blocks take out more than GAC filters, including VOCs.
