I build lighthouses as a hobby and am considering using low-voltage lighting in my latest model. Specifically this one:

My question is, do these operate off 12 volt AC or DC voltage?
Any information I have found on the transformers does not say.
Is it really necessary to use the transformers for these lights, or is it possible to make one? What makes them so special?

Generally, incandescent bulbs don't care if they are supplied AC or DC current.
