We are starting to redo a tiny kitchen in a cottage and my husband wants to put knotty pine from the black spash to the base of the cabinets in the kitchen to match the knotty pine ceiling in the combo living kitchen area. I am against it but wanted to see what anyone else thought. We are only talking about an area of about 12" high and about 5 ft long.

Welcome to the forums! We make it a practice not to practice marriage counseling on the forums, but consider your materials that you will be using. Wood. Porous. Combustible. Putting the pine there will look really good for the short term, but with all the heat, the finish will shortly deteriorate, it will soak up moisture, and more importantly cooking grease, which will flash should it get hot enough.

thanks Larry, maybe you should get a new job-I read your reponse to my husband and he said we need to do something else then.

Made it easy for you, huh? Now a leather look tile would give a good look in the back splash area, sort of brownish, tan, reddish, color that would blend well with the adjacent pine. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.
