I have a situation on my hands that I'm not sure how to handle. I'm making some changes update my 1960s kitchen. New counter tops, moving the sink, remove wall between kitchen and dinning room etc. I'm keeping the cabinets just moving 2 of them and that is where my problem starts. The kitchen floor consists of 12 x 12 ceramic tile layed directly over the original VCT tiles layed in 1964. I need to lay about 8 tiles or so to cover where the cabinets used to be, will today's modern mastic adhere to VCT tile as the old mastic apparently has for so long ? My subfloor consists of 2 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood over 2 x 8 joists spaced less then 16" apart(they vary) so flex is not a worry.

It's OK here Joe.

You would want to use modified thinset mortar NOT mastic, they are two different things. There is no reason why thinset won't do the job.:)

Thanks Bud for the reply. I always seem to confuse mastic with thinset. The modified thinset you recomend can be found at HD or Lowes, correct ?

Correct. It comes in dry powder form and you mix it with water. Please don't get suckered into any of the premixed stuff that comes in buckets, it will never dry in this case.:)
