Hi, have a home built in the 80's, it was not plumbed to have a water softner. I'm near Nashville and we have very hard water. So I want to add a water softner.
I'm thinking we want soft water at all faucents except outside faucets, the water line for the refrig and the cold side of the kitchen faucet.
I know there is one main line into the home in the crawl space area, it's flexible grey water line. It goes into a manifold then there are a number of water lines that run off the manifold.
The only space I have to put this is in the Garage near the water heater, there is no floor drain near either. Getting to the main water line and manifold would entail punching a hole through foundation block and about 20 feet of water line to the manifold area.
I'm very much a do-it-your-self'er but, is this a big job best left to a pro?
Was thinking I could rent a unit for a short time, let them install then when the contract is up I could cancel it and install one myself, at least all the plumbing would be done for me by a pro.
I'm just trying to get a sense of how big a job this could be for me. Am I getting into a bog complex job?
Thanks all,
