I am wanting to make a door for our entertainment center to baby proof it. It needs to be able to have a child lock on it and be safe for him to put his hands on. Please help!;)

Welcome to the forums! Making the door will be design sensitive, as we have no way of knowing what type door you want. As far as making it child proof, install finger latches. As far as closure you could use a magnetic push lock that operates similar to a ball point pen. Push lock, push unlock, but the latch will keep it partially open until you unlock it with your finger. Go to http://www.kidsafeinc.com/-strse-120/child-safety-cabinet-latches%2C/Detail.bok for an example.

Not sure what kind of skills or tools you have. It can be as simple as a piece of plywood with hinges and a childproof (childproof means adults have trouble with it) hasp, or a framed multi panel door that blends with the cabinet. Or there are lots of door manufacturers on the net that can makes whatever you want. Or maybe a local millwork shop.

I am looking to make a very simple door. I am wondering if I should make it bigger than the space it is to cover or the same size. and what kind of hinges should I use.

We have a local lumberyard that stocke small cabinet doors in a variety of sizes, styles, and materials. Look for something like that. If it does not fit exactly, it could be easily trimmed.

As Just Bill suggests, go someplace that sells cabinet doors and pick a style that matches your entertainment center. You can sand/stain to match your entertainment center unless you get lucky and get one to match.

I have a local kitchen cabinet install company nearby and they have tons of doors from displays that they sell for as low as $1.00. Easiest way to get doors for any cabinet that you want to enclose.

By the way, if you are concerned about making the entertainment center child proof, you should also make sure it doesn't tip over. Many child injuries are caused by the child pulling themselves up on the entertainment center and with a TV usally being set high up, the entire entertainment center tips over.
