Sorry for the lack of specifics but I'm doing this over the phone with my son 300 miles away.
Carrier natural gas model: 58STA-070-11112
Carrier thermostat
Town house....3 years old.
He says for the last two days the fan will shut off for 30 seconds or so then start back up. Not sure yet if the burner shuts off. He says he has 3 nice blue flames inside.
The thermostat (he calls it a faceplate), which plugs into the wall to 4 wires, says it's only 56....he says it's not near that cold...maybe a little cool.
So....I told him to buy a new thermostat or could it be something deeper? Thermostat says Carrier but he didn't want to unplug it with the temps going down fast outside to get a number.
If it matters it has been really windy there the last two days.

We need to know for sure if the flame is staying on the whole time or not..
As for the fan, is he talking about the main blower that moves the heated air around?
What happens if he set the fan switch from AUTO to ON?

Yes, the main blower.
If he sets the fan switch to on it just keeps blowing.
He has had problems before.....it would be sweltering in the house and they had to turn the furnace off, the 'display' would be blank.
Now it seems to have gone the other way.
Let me say this....I now realize how difficult it can be to help someone when you can't be there to see the problem first hand.
