So, trying to save some money here and re-upholster my ethan allen dining room chairs. As I was taking the cushion apart, there is this fiber-mesh cloth on the bottom side of the cushiong ( i guess that supports the weight since the design of the wood has a hold in the middle ). Im not sure what this "cloth" is but its really tough and hard to tear ( feels like nylon but my friends were telling me its FIBER.) Would you have an idea what this may be and where I can purchase?

Not sure what it is, but some people use the mesh shelf liner that you can get at Walmart, I believe. If you have any upholsterer's in your area, you can see if they might have this (or something similar) to sell you. Nylon is a fiber, so you're both right. :D

Thanks. I'll head over to an upholstery place near by.

Shadeladie, what purpose does this liner serve? I do not upholster, but I have books on it in my library. I have none that mention such a fabric. Maybe my books are too old and upholstery has moved to a new level. I always wanted to take an upholstery class at a local community college but time and $$ never allowed.

Twelvepole, Zoo is right on his/her guess. It's just extra support for the foam on chairs with opening's at the bottom.

I am not clear from your description, but I think your talking about the bottom of the cushion. Also, I assume had to take 4 or so screws out to release the cushon. You said there was a hole (in the wood?) The hole is there if it is upholstered in vinyl or leather so the foam can breath. If not for the hole the seams would eventually pop. The hole is there incase vinyl is used, so even if it's cloth you will see the hole. The cloth you ask about is just to give it a finished look, could be anything even cardboard and in cloth it's called cambric.
