My contractors have applied grout between the bottom of the tiles around the tub and the tub, rather than using caulk which I understood to be the correct thing to do. The grout is now starting to come away from the tub surround (after 4 weeks!).
Before I yell at them and have them redo it properly, would this be justified?

Thanks!

You will get mixed answers too this, but most will say to caulk all these areas for this very reason.

Only grout that might hold up to something like that is probably a epoxy grout.

They warranty their work? If so, call them back and have them clean all that grout out and apply a caulking.

Cool - thanks for the advice. The grout has gone soft and can be scratched out with a fingernail, so I don't think it's waterproof and the risk of water getting into the apartment downstairs is too high.

I'll yell at them tomorrow!

While your at it, check to see if they grouted the corners. The corners should have been caulked (not grouted) as well.
Good luck
