Hello,
I am installing some recessed lighting in my kitchen, existing construction.
I have purchased some IC can/recessed lights and have cut my first hole.
I notice there is a vapor barrier as well as insulation that is covered with a plastic barrier within my attic.
In order to accomidate this fixture, can i cut this vapor barrier and insulation?
Is there a problem with my IC fixture being in contact with the plastic on the vapor barrier / insulation?
I am familiar with the electical installation of these light but have yet to install these where contact with attic insulation is a concern.
Thanks in advace.

If they are IC rated cans, there sould be no problems with direct contact. But for lighting where the space above is insulated , I would go for sealed cans as well as the IC rating. That considerably reduces the air transfer to the attic.
