I got some WAC Xenon 12V puck lights together with a WAC electronic transformer. I wired it up with a low voltage compatible dimmer. So far so good.
However, when I dim the lights the pucks lights are humming. Not the dimmer, not the transformer. I expected it the other way around. Did anyone else experience something similar? Can anything be done about it? E.g. a 12V filter?

Are you using a low voltage dimmer?

There is two diffrent type of low voltage dimmers.,,

one is magatinic rated dimmer and other one is electronic rated both are diffrent and should not be interchangeable at all.

if you have electronic transformer you have to use the dimmer rated for electronic transformer.

Currently, I'm using the follwoing dimmer:

They state that it would work with both magnetic or electronic: "low-voltage lights with magnetic or dimmable electronic transformers".

There is an other one (talking only about magnetic):

XPDI3 (inductive lighting):

I had not much luck so far finding "electronic transformer" dimmers....

These lamps can draw up to 5 amps each (5 x 12 = 60 watts) so 12 of them means that your transformer is putting out 60 amps at 12 volts , the same as a GOOD BATTERYU CHARGER FOR YOUR CAR !!! ... humming is ONLY CAUSED BY MAGNETIC FIELDS, 60 amps is one heck of a big magnetic field, anything magnetic near it, like the tracks will vibrate or hum, even the bulb fixtures. Live with it or buy lower current bulbs.

Near Nanticoke hydro, when they were putting in the megawatt transformers, they railroaded them fromHamilto, about 40 miles away. Each transformer had a 3/8" weather, steel, shield around it. ... when the transformers were powered up, these shields were pulled into the tranformer, 'like crumpled aluminum foil' ...10's of millions of $'s to fix them ! An engineering OOOPS !!!

Magnetism is an awesome thing to beware of !!!
