Have a 12yr old Heil gas forced air furnace that runs normal cycles with plenty of heat, however in-between the normal cycles the digital thermostat will click on and the furnace will ignite and startup only to shut back off after say 10 seconds or so?? It will do this occassionally. Say 1x or 2x per hour. Any thoughts are appreciated. I did buy another thermostat thinking that was it but gotten the same results with the new one. Haven't had this problem til this year. Thanks ahead.

This only happens in heat mode? Not when the mode switched to Off at the t-stat?
What is the make/model of the new t-stat?

Yes it only happens in heat mode not with AC or when it switched to off. When off obviously nothing happens and the furnace stays off. I bought another t-stat I think a Hunter from Lowes as the other digital stat was allowing the furnace to do the same thing as the current t-stat is now. I wouldn't think both stats would cause this but ???.

Is this problem you are having something new and you have lived in this house now for at least one prior heating season?
Where is this stat mounted? Is it somewhere that extra cold drafts are getting to it? Should not be on outside wall you know. Or that cold air currents don't keep wafting out of some cold bedroom down the hall past the thermsotat; stuff like that.
For the fun of it, have you tried setting dip switches inside like for the swing temp to say 3 degrees, rather than 1 degree? Or if dip switch for cycles per hour, to lengthen them? Or if dip swithes for gas/elec. heat to make sure you have that set right? Or if dip switch for heat pump, that that one is not on, if you don't have a heat pump?
