My question is that I am considering doing a couple modifications in my bathroom. A long side my vanity mirror there are two lights. Lets say I wanted to put lighting above the vanity rather than on the side. What are my options given the current lighting configuration?
I am also thinking of installing a bathroom vent fan what would I need to do for that regarding eletrical? I would probably install a timer switch any advice is appreciated.

You have not supplied nearkly enough information for us to answer the questions.
Do you have an unfinished attic above the bathroom? Is the bathroom up to current code?
Do you have any idea how the wiring presently runs?

That's fine. To get yourself up to speed, buy and read the book Wiring Simplified. That will get you started.
As for the questions, you should know if you have an unfinished attic or crawl space above the bathroom. In the attic or crawl space can you see wires running into the walls where the bathroom lights, switch(es) and receptacle(s) are located?
How old is the house? Has the bathroom ever been updated?

The bathroom was a new addition in the late 1970's it sounds like. There is no attic above the bathroom so it would go directly to outside. The house was built around 1900. I will check out that book. Thanks!
