I have 2 oil burners in my house and need help. I want to do a routine tune-up myself and don't know where to begin. I have an American Standard for my house and a New Yorker for my apartment, both draw from the same oil tank.

The installation manuals of your units should have the information you need.
To do a good and complete tune-up, you'll need some testers that do not come cheap (over $600 in investment). It'll be cheaper for you to hire-up a professional.

If you post the full model numbers for both units, I'll try my best to find out the manuals
The article below shows info of a general nature, kind'a to get you started with what a tune-up involves

Yes you can say to work on a oil burner is a DIY job. but with what fuel cost are to day it just dont pay. Call some one to check the burner out all the way and set it . The cost of what you need to do this is a lot more than a service call. Its new nozzle ,clean the blower wheel clean and set the electrodes.Check the burner transformer, new filter. Then check the pump PSI , check and set the draft on the Barometic damper. Run a Co2 test and then a stack temp and smoke test. Do you have all the things to do all that??;)

The American Std. A3 is an old (40+ years) boiler with an Arco Flame or Arco Leader burner if the burner is original. I presume the New Yorker is also a boiler but no nothing of it's age.
