Doors and Windows - Transferring hallway door to doorway...

Hi,

I unhinged my hallway door to transfer it to my kitchen doorway that has no door frame...

Just wondering how to transfer the door to the open door way. what kind of tools and materials are needed?

Ollie, welcome to the forums! You will want to make sure the opening in the other room is the same as the opening from which you are moving the door. If it is, then you should remove the door trim, run a reciprocating saw with a metal blade along the sides of the door to cut the nails and remove the entire unit, installing it in the new opening, ensuring the frame is square and plumb in it. Reinstall the door. Before you make this move, make sure the swing of the door will be adequate in the new opening, ie. not hitting a countertop, not opening against a wall heater, etc. You will need to dress up the opening you abandoned, by ripping 1x6's to 5 1/8" wide and install them as a header and sides, then install compatible trim molding around the newly installed boards.

Assuming the door is the right size, which I doubt(bathroom doorways are often less than 30", kitchen doorways usually more than 30"), you need to mortise the jamb for the hinges and install a stop molding. Then bore/mortise the opposite jamb for the latch plate.
