I bought 5 gorgeous gold-plated 230v picture lamps (for use here in Austria), each with 10 x 5 W Halogen bulbs. Unfortunately, I need to be able to switch each of the 5 fixtures on and off independently of the others.
Can I simply install some sort of functional and decorative (bright brass, say) toggle switch on the fixture? (by drilling a hole through the fixture housing). Or will I be stuck banging my head against the wall for making an idiotic purchase?:wall: Thanks for any suggestions.

Very likely, you can.
You just need to find a decent switch (that is electrically rated for the situation), and a place to mount it on the fixture.
The only thing is would you be permitted to modify the fixture in that way, and if you do, would its safety approval still be valid?

Do these picture lamps have a flexible cord and just plug into a nearby electrical outlet? I don't know about European wiring methods, but here in the USA, it is common to add an in-line cord switch to such a type of fixture.

If You Go To An Electronics / Phone / Cable Supply House, They Have Plates With Holes In Them For Toggles As Well. Yes Its Okay As Long As These Toggles Are Rated For The Voltage Used.
