Hi, I have an old, very ugly, rough brick fireplace with a gas insert. I want to cover the fireplace with, perhaps, slate or marble. Would I be correct in thinking that cement board mortared to the brick is the correct way to approach this? Also, are there any other considerations given that I intend to keep a working gas insert in the fireplace?
