I have an Aprilaire 760. The water runs over the water panel and the fan comes on. the unit was installed a few years ago, but has never produced good results. On cold days (furnace runns allot) the humidity in the hous can be as low as 20%, and never goes over 30% during the winter season. I had the same unit in my old house an could easely sweat the windows (old style manual controlls). What could be wrong?

It can be a few things..

-Older home with lots of drafts/hidden leaks?

-Maybe an outdoor sensor is used? (Outdoor sensor controls the humidity level to advoid the windows being wet on a cold day.. (I have it on mine, and it keeping the house around 25% with the temps -13 out now.)

-Fresh air tied into return? (Drawing fresh air all times will dry out the house like crazy)

Is hot water used on the line? Pad new? Pad in right? (Paint stripe on top?)

Its a 10 year old house.

The outside temperature varies from 25-40F, so not very cold here in Texas. and trhe unit does turn on.

I have no fresh air intake.

I am connected to cold water supply. my nanual ststed hot water was only needed with an heat pump.

have you ever heard of this type of problem coming from air flow, simply not allowinf the fan to move enough air over the water panel.

Im thinking about making a scoop to direct the air toward the panel, any thoughts on that?

It could be a poor air flow... is this an up flow or side way? If I recall those style of humidifer don't work well on side flow system.. I Take it's in the attic?
