I'm at elevation 6000 feet and having problems with the oven on my new Kenmore gas range. The oven flame is yellow instead of blue, so the instructions say to open the air shutter. I've opened the air shutter to its max position, and the flame is still yellow. Do I need to get a high altitude kit (if such a thing exists) or is the problem somewhere else?

Hello Brian. Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic.

If the appliance is brand new, as in just purchased locally and there is a need to have it set up for a higher elevation, might be a good idea to contact Sears for service.

You can try this first. Adjust the burners orifice to reduce the volume of gas. Which will reduce the flame size. Adjust the flames size down. (smaller)

Flames should not exceed the flames spreader plate, which is attached to the top of the burner. Flames should be about one to two inches in from the ends of the flame spreader plate. At this size the flames will be all blue.

To adjust, turn the orifice clock wise (in-wards) until the flame size is reduced as mentioned about. Note the results. Should then resolve the problem.

Question now is, if the ovens burner flames are too large and burning yellow, so should the top burners. Are they also to large and burning yellow?
