Doors and Windows - Screw holes on Door are too large

Hi

I've got a Door that's become loose becuase the Screw holes in the Door have become too large, and I cannot find any Screws large enough to use. I've read that you can put Match Sticks into the holes, but this Door is hollow and the Match Sticks end up falling through the hole to the bottom of the Door.

Has anybody got any ideas on how to fix this simply?

Couple of ways to do it. One is to drill the holes oversize that will make a snug fit for pieces of dowel. Then insert dowels with a strong glue (Gorilla or similar). When completley dried saw the dowel plugs off flush, sand the area, and redrill the holes. Make sure the dowels are a snug fit in the holes you drill, i.e. drill them slightly undersize for the dowel diameter.

Could also do the matchstick trick by gluing the matchsticks in place with a fast-setting epoxy; then reinstall the screws with the epoxy holding the matches stationery.

Golf tees. I use them often to fill the holes and re-screw doors. Just glue them in and drive them with a hammer, cut them with a knife and put in a new screw.

Match sticks are too small for your application - tow guy and chandler gave you good advice. I'm not a golfer, so I usually go the dowel route (no golf tees in my house).

Me, either. I steal them from my BIL. I leave him with 3 or 4 so he can get started, anyway.

Probably be a good idea to sand them a little or scrape off the paint if using tees for best gluing.

Thanks all for your tips & idea's, the Door is now fixed.
I used a few dowels, pre drilled holes into them, stuck them into the holes in the Door with Epoxy glue and once dry I then screwed in some screws.
