Purchasing a foreclosure in central florida where the previous owner ripped out the downstairs unit.
It is a 2800 sq ft house with a little more of it upstairs then down.
I know heat rises and the bedrooms are upstairs...So do you think I can get away with just the upstairs unit for a while?

Trying to put off the 5 to 8K it will cost for the lower unit...for at least 6 months or so.

What do ya think?

You dont say how far south you are down there?? How cold is it there now?? Id say yes just put the upstairs in now. It dont get real cold there. ( I spent 25 years down there) I know one winter only had heat on for 3 days.
Could put a fan top of the stairs to blow heat down to bottom floor for now

Sorry, I guess I wasnt as clear as I could have been....

Central Florida doesnt get cold at all. It wasnt the cold I was really inquiring about, as I will probably never turn the heat on...ever....

Cooling is the major concern down here. I know heat rises, so I was thinking if I only have the upstairs unit working, then all will be fine until the middle of summer or so.

Any opinions?

On that down stairs unit get some electric heat in it . You do need some now and then . I spent time in west palm and we did need it just a little. Dont even think heatpump it dont pay there. Also with the poor power you get from FPL be sure and have a timedelay on the AC unit there. It will save the compressor in the AC units. You wont know how one unit will do till it gets real warm. But try it

Considering that cool air is heavier and will fall, you will get some cooling to the first floor.

I believe you should be OK for a while. If first floor cooling becomes a problem and you need more time, a window unit may be a temporary low cost solution.

thanks for the opinions guys...

We decided to pull the trigger on this house...as it looks as if we could wait till june or so before doing the downstairs unit.
