Greening Your Home - Energy Conservation

I notice that the subtopics in this Forum are Solar & Wind Power, Geo-Thermal Energy Systems and Water Conservation. What about Energy Conservation?

We should be concerned year round about Water Conservation, but it becomes more critical during the hot, summer months when we encounter drought. This particularly applies to conservation of water in the landscape. Posts re: Water Conservation in the landscape are welcome in the 'green' landscape forum.

Here is a good place for discussion of Energy Conservation, seeing that it is terribly cold outdoors and heating bills are climbing. Summer will be here before we know it, and discussion re: summer Energy Conservation is important, too.

its all that energy star qualified stuff ... that stuff saves a ton of energy, like the thermostats and appliances... the thermostats save like $120 a year.

We've had a tankless hot water heater for 4 years. While initially more expensive than a regular hot water heater, the tankless has paid for itself by the decrease in electric bills. Not only do we save energy, we save money...how great is THAT!??

We also keep the thermostat at 66 degrees, you can always put on a sweater if it feels too cool, but we'd be wearing sleeveless shirts if we were outdoors and it was 66 degrees. The lower indoor temperature saves money as well as energy and results in less static from dry heat.

Certainly we all need to do our part to conserve all resources and use less energy. This is a great topic and look forward to others sharing their ideas.

One thing I have been looking into is getting an energy audit. Has anyone tried that before?

At our house we have CFL's lights, sealed windows,and the tankless water heater....but were looking for more! Any ideas are appreciated.
