I would like to tile (using slate) over my current walkway which is concrete. The concrete walkway meets the driveway. My question is how should i handle the transition between the new tile and the existing driveway. Now they are level, but with tile they won't be. Someone said i should get the concrete "graded". I would like to have some ideas on the most economical, best looking option.

You would have to remove a wedge of concrete about an inch to an inch and a half at one end feathering back to zero about 3 foot behind the driveway edge. Not impossible, but not easy either. It will require a scrabbler or planer, either of which will cost a couple hundred bucks to rent and a good weekend's worth of beer-drinking work, or a half day of real labor.

tile, historically, won't last in exterior uses as water'll infiltrate the grout/mortar, freeze, & lift the tile,,, even in atl/augusta, we experience this often,,, our work's removing 'em & repairing w/decorative conc overlays,,, up nawth, its even worse, of course !
